About Ablebooks Initiative

We create beautiful and inclusive storybooks for Deaf children and young students with disabilities because we believe every child deserve to see themselves in the stories they read.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create and share disability-inclusive storybooks that inspire confidence, learning, and representation for Deaf children and young students with disabilities. We:

  • Feature Deaf children and young students with disabilities as main characters in their stories.
  • Support educators and parents in strengthening inclusive childhood experiences.
  • Challenge stereotypes and celebrate the perspectives of Deaf children and young students with disabilities.

    Our Vision

To be Africa’s leading disability-inclusive literary organization, reaching over one million Deaf children and young students with disabilities by 2040. We imagine a future where every child can see, feel, and believe that they belong in the stories they read.

    Our Vision

We envision a world where every child can see themselves in the stories they read, where literature is fully accessible to all, and where differences are celebrated rather than marginalized.

Our vision extends beyond books to a society that embraces neurodiversity and disability as natural aspects of human experience—where inclusive design is the standard, not the exception.

By 2030, we aim to have our inclusive books in every school library across the country, ensuring that all children have access to stories that reflect the full spectrum of human experience.

    Our Mission

We believe that representation matters and that all children deserve to see themselves in the stories they read. Our mission is to create and distribute inclusive books that:

    • Feature children with disabilities as protagonists and heroes
    • Incorporate accessible design elements like braille, audio companions, and sensory features
    • Promote understanding and empathy among all children
    • Support educators and parents in fostering inclusive environments
    • Challenge stereotypes and celebrate the unique perspectives of children with disabilities

    Representation

Creating stories where children with disabilities are the heroes and main characters, not just supporting roles.

    Accessibility

Designing books with features like braille, audio companions, and sensory elements to make reading accessible to all.

    Education

Fostering understanding and empathy among all children through inclusive storytelling and educational resources.
